Our History

The Chesterfield Athletic Club has been a part of the Chesterfield community for over three decades. On November 1, 1974, the Club opened under the name of Castle Oaks. Steve Apted and Lou Sachs were the original owners and John Connors (Jimmy’s brother) was a pro along with Paul Tobin, who is our current tennis director. At that time, there were 6 indoor tennis courts and 10 outdoor tennis courts, an ice rink and nine racquetball courts.

Around 1980, the ice rink was transformed into an indoor soccer field. In 1982, Met Life purchased the facility and built an adjacent Breckenridge Hotel, which was completed in 1984. The soccer field became the now indoor pool.

In July 2005, The DoubleTree acquired ownership and the Club name was changed to the Chesterfield Athletic Club. In January 2007, a multi-million dollar renovation was completed and along with the new image, the Club was renamed The Club at Chesterfield.

In the summer of 2011, the Club and DoubleTree Hotel were purchased by St. Louis-based Lodging Hospitality Management Inc. Enhancements to the facility are well underway! As part of the transition, the management team decided to return to the previous name – The Chesterfield Athletic Club. Many members have continued to refer to it as “The CAC” or “the Club” through the years, and despite numerous name variations, it just felt “right.” Today, the 91,000 square-foot facility consists of nine indoor and six outdoor tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor pool, cardio & weight rooms, basketball/volleyball court, three racquetball courts and three aerobic rooms.
